Charlotte's 20 Ways to Well being in 2020



1. Drink more Water

Drinking more water is one of the simplest things you can do to improve your health. 70% of your body is water so the impact of dehydration is significant. I'm an advocate for starting the day with a glass of warm lemon water to kick-start your hydration and digestion. Carry a water bottle with you each day and make water your main drink.


2. Prioritise and improve your SLEEP!

Sleep impacts your health, mental function, mood, and even your level of body fat! Make sleep a priority for well being. Start to improve your sleep by avoiding screens for the last hour before bedtime and avoid caffeine after midday.


3. Reduce processed foods

Processed foods often contain refined flours and sugars, artificial sweeteners, colourings, flavours and preservatives - all things your body does not recognise and has not adapted to process. If it comes in a packet and has an ingredient label it is more often than not processed. Try focusing on 'whole-foods' as nature made them and feel your body respond positively.


4. Increase your intake of leafy greens

Leafy greens are some of the most nutrient dense foods on this planet. Increasing the amount you have daily will give your body a boost of essential nutrients, minerals and vitamins for optimal function and good health.


5. Reduce your screen-time

Technology is all around us and for some of us our phones and devices have become another limb - something we don't part with. Phones, computer screens and TV's are all disruptive to our brains optimal functioning, besides the content of whatever it is we may be doing or viewing! Be mindful of your screen-time and take 'time-out' - disconnect to reconnect with nature, life and those around you.


6. Be empowered and learn to say NO!

When something is asked of you if it's not a "yes for sure" then it's a NO! Be true to yourself, your values and your beliefs, if something doesn't light you up don't do it - and feel empowered for honouring yourself and saying "No"


7. Enjoy regular physical activity

Find exercise that you enjoy and be active for at least 30 minutes everyday. Your body will love you for this regular endorphin releasing activity. Remember that if you don't use it you lose it, staying active now will support your health and well being as you get older.


8. Have a meat-free day each week

Give your digestive system a break from meat by having a meat free meal each week. Meat is dense and harder for your stomach to process and break down, honour your digestive system by giving it a break and feel the benefits. Explore some delicious meal options without meat, there are some amazing vegetarian and plant-based recipes out there!


9. Create a ‘vibration board’

Vibration boards are like vision boards however you add images that contain the people and things that already 'light you up'. Make your board a beautiful collection of things you'd like in your life, things you have already brought into your life and the things that light you up, this way your energy will vibrate at a level more likely to bring in what you want than when you continue to project those things into the future.


10. Create a new spiritual practice

Having time and 'space' for yourself each day is essential to your spiritual well being. Create a practice that fits your life and gives you some 'quiet' in your day. When we are fulfilled in a spiritual way we become aligned and life flows better than before. You may learn to meditate, make time for a peaceful walk in the garden, or create a mindful practice at a certain time each day.


11. Visit a new place, somewhere you have always wanted to go!

Near or far, visit somewhere you have always wanted to go. It is great to explore our world, be it our local community, our beautiful Nation or somewhere abroad. Exploring new places opens up new opportunities while creating happy memories and valuable new experiences that add a richness to our lives.


12. Learn a new skill you have always wanted to try

Think of one thing you have always wanted to do and make it happen this year! A night class? A new sport? A new craft? We are never too old to learn and it's never too late to start! It is exciting to try something that's been in the back of your head for a while, tick it off the list and open up new experiences for yourself!


13. Declutter your home - room by room

Decluttering is a powerful way to get your mental, spiritual and physical world in order. A cluttered environment creates a cluttered mind. Free yourself from your clutter and experience the phenomenal sense of clarity. Decluttering is best done room by room. Sort cupboards and storage, donate unused/unwanted items to charity and repurpose your possessions. I cannot emphasise enough how powerful this can be!


14. Revise your current relationships - nurture the ones worth keeping!

Think about the people in your life you spend the most time with. Consider whether they light you up or drag your energy down. Invest in the relationships that are most fulfilling and honour yourself by spending less time with those people that don't make you feel amazing.


15. Volunteer for a cause close to your heart

Volunteering is a very rewarding activity when you find a cause close to your heart. Being kind and giving a little of yourself to those in need can fulfil a sense of purpose and service in us. Be careful not to overdo the giving at the expense of your own well being.


16. Keep a Gratitude Journal

Taking time to be mindful and have gratitude in each day is a powerful way to rewire our brains into positivity. Sometimes the simple things in our life come and go each day without a thought, being present and taking time to be grateful for even the smallest of things can improve our lives immensely. Writing down 3 things you are grateful for at the end of each day is a lovely way to finish your day and sends you off to sleep in a happy place.


17. Laugh everyday

Laughing truly is the best medicine! Making time to laugh with friends and family is good for your soul. Connect and share humour with those around you, play a fun game or perhaps watch a comedy. Making time to be a bit 'silly' can be a fun way to create laughter and lighten up with your children.


18. Find new ways to express your Creativity

Creativity encompasses all the ways that we express ourselves each day. It can be the secret ingredient that brings everything in life together creating a higher level of joy and fulfilment. Creativity isn't just being arty, it can be the way your organise your filing system, the plating of your food, the combination of colours, fabrics and items you choose when redecorating a room and so much more! Think of ways that you are already creative and find ways to expand and grow your creativity.


19. Start a Vegetable Garden or try and grow something new

There is nothing more rewarding than growing your own produce! You can create a vegetable garden in very little space or grow a few things in a pot at the front door. Herbs on a kitchen windowsill are fabulous for easy use while cooking.


20. Learn to love the work you do, or find work you love!

It is so important to enjoy what you do each day. If your current work doesn't light you up, align with your values or make you feel great perhaps it needs rethinking. Find a way to make it more enjoyable or move on to something you love. Feeling fulfilled and satisfied in our daily work is an important component of good health and well being.


Even embracing just one thing off this list will contribute to a happier, healthier you, imagine how your life could improve if you dared to take on a few more!
